        Alan Parsons Project

Alan provides a brief overview of the APP re-issues that are hitting the shelves over the next few months. He then asks, “How many here have picked up the remastered Tales of Mystery and Imagination?” (Sadly, not a single hand went up) “Well then, this is an ideal opportunity to let you know that this became available recently. You get both the 1976 original and the 1987 remix versions as well as some rare demos and such in the set.”

Q. I'm curious to know something; who did that whistling on Tales of Mystery and Imagination?

A. "That was me; since I had no natural vibrato, it was fed into a processor to get that warble into it"

        Special Musicians

Q. You’ve worked with many of the greats; do any particular musicians stand out in your mind?

A. "Yes that’s true; I’d have to single out Ian Bairnson has to be one of the most talented persons to ever play guitars; he could do it all. I very much enjoyed working with him. David Gilmour is great and very supportive, playing on one of two tracks I sent him."

Q. (timbre4) I'd like to know how you became aware of Ambrosia, what spark you heard in their music that made you want to work them and how far along were the tracks when you first heard them?

A. "I happen to be walking by a telephone when it rang and a voice asked for Alan Parsons. It turned out to be a classical music engineer down the road at Decca who asked if I would take a listen to a recording by this new band from Los Angeles. I did hear it soon after and was quite impressed with what they were doing. As it was I was headed to LA in a month for the Grammy nomination for DSOTM, I agreed to meet them. After hearing more of the material and spending time with them, I agreed to return in another month and mix the album. The tracks were already very far along and really well engineered making my task a pleasure."

        Current Music

Q. Are there any current bands that you find worthwhile?

A. "Not a lot of time spent checking out new stuff, I think Maroon 5 is one of the best new bands coming up these days."
